Things to know about Bakarkhani Recipe
The Indian Traditional Fried Spiced Bread or Bakarkhani is a flatbread that is fried and spiced. The delicate bread is sprinkled with sesame seeds.
The delicacy has roots in Sylhet. A legend attributes the bread’s name to Agha Baker Khan, the adopted son of Nawab of Bengal. Because of trade and travel, the bread is today popular in Kashmir, Lucknow, and Hyderabad. The Kashmiri variant of the bread is thin, similar to a round bread called Naan. But it is crispier and is sprinkled with sesame seeds.
Bakarkhani is also called “Shukha Naan” which means “dry bread”. The Kashmiri Bakarhani is served with local tea called “Noon Chai” or “pink tea”. It can also be served with Masala Tea. Other variants of Bakarkhani are also served with stews and other dishes.
