Ingredients
For Dhokli
- 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
- 1 tbsp Gram Flour
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder – Curcuma Powder
- 1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder
- 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
- 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil
- Salt As needed
- Water For kneading
For Lentil Stew
- 1 cup Pigeon Pea Lentil – Pigeonpea – Red Gram – Gungo Peas Soaked
- 1 tbsp Clarified Butter
- Salt As needed
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder – Curcuma Powder
- 1/4 tsp Red Chili Powder
- 1 unit Bay Leaf
- 3 units Kokum – Garcinia Indica
- 1 tbsp Jaggery Powder – Panela – Gur
For Tempering
- 2 tbsp Clarified Butter
- 1 tsp Mustard Seed
- 1/4 tsp Fenugreek Seeds
- 10 units Curry Leaf
- 2 units Clove
- 5 units Dried Red Chili
- 1 thumb Cinnamon Stick
- 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
- 1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder
Instructions
For Dhokli
- In a bowl, add wheat flour, gram flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and a pinch of asafoetida.
- Add salt and oil and mix well. Further, add water and knead the mixture into a soft dough. Set aside and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
- After resting, take a portion of the dough and roll it into a thick chapati. Cut this chapati into diamond-shaped small pieces. Set them aside.
For Lentil Stew
- To prepare the lentil stew, take a large pan. Add pigeon pea, clarified butter, salt, turmeric, red chili powder, and bay leaf.
- Pour in the water and mix everything well. Cover the pan and cook the lentils on medium heat for 25 minutes. The lentils should become soft.
- Add the cut chapatis into the stew along with jaggery and kokum. Let the Dal simmer for 10 more minutes.
For Tempering
- Take a pan and add clarified butter, mustard seeds, curry leaves, and fenugreek seeds.
- Further, add red chili, cinnamon stick, cloves, and a pinch of asafoetida. Saute it for a minute and pour the tempering in the Dal Dhokli.
