Things to know about Awamori Recipe
Japanese Traditional Lotus Blossom Cocktail from Okinawa Prefecture – Awamori is a fermented drink distilled using long grain rice and a mold called black koji. This mold can provide the beverage with its distinct flavor.
It is stored inside clay pots to age and mature. If you are in Okinawa, you will find a common drink served together with water and ice. The person who will drink it will adjust the taste by mixing water and ice according to their taste. Besides drinking it alone, it is also good to mix it with other cocktail drinks or soda. Interestingly, some also mix it with flavored milk, and the result is amazing. It is traditionally served using kara-kara, which is a small vessel with clay marble inside. The vessel makes a sound to let people know that it is empty and needs to be poured with Awamori. Today, these traditional vessels are still available in Okinawa, but some do not have clay marble inside.
